SAT/ACT/PSAT

College Admissions Tests: ACT, SAT & PSAT

The ACT and SAT are national college admissions tests used by many colleges as part of their review. The PSAT/NMSQT is a practice SAT that also gives juniors a chance to qualify for National Merit recognition and scholarships.

PSAT at South Pointe

  • Who: Sophomores
  • When: Offered each October at SPHS
  • Why: Practice for SAT
  • How: Sign up through School Counseling when registration opens

About the PSAT/NMSQT

When should I take the ACT or SAT?

  • Start junior year. Many students test once in the fall and again in the spring after more coursework and practice.
  • Seniors: Test early fall if you need scores for applications or scholarships.
  • You can take either test (or both). Colleges accept either ACT or SAT.

Fee Waivers (Do I qualify?)

If you’re eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (or meet similar income guidelines), you may qualify for test fee waivers.

  • ACT: Covers registration for multiple test dates and includes college application fee waivers for participating colleges.
  • SAT: Covers registration and sends unlimited score reports plus college application fee waivers at eligible colleges.

To request a waiver, see Mr. Brian Rogers in School Counseling or email BRogers@rhmail.org.
